In 1952 Dina Merrill was in Key West staring in "Operation Petticoat". She purchased a Mario Sanchez for Spencer Tracey, who played the lead in Ernest Hemingway's "Old Man & The Sea", also filmed here. Spencer bestowed Mario's intaglio on his paramour Kathrine Hepburn. On the back of this early carving by Mario is a four stanza poem. Look carefully at the shark (El Galano) and heed his words.
